She started appearing in my dreams, her phosphorescent image haunting me as I woke in sweats and dampened sheets. Her salacious tongue began to drive at her antithetical twin, until it became unbearable. Eventually she would be replaced with her troublesome counterpart, a waif whose childhood had snuffed out. Halfway between Bahnhof Zoo and Montreal my chest gave out and crushed inwards. In a last dying breath my heart imploded. Bereft of life I crawled from the shadows in the only way I knew how, through the mind’s eye, with one word: Christiane.
